This book tells a story about a boy who has a "craniofacial difference," and how he goes to school for the first time due to his face. During the summer before his first day of fifth grade, Auggie Pullman finally goes to the school Beecher Park to take a tour. While he is there he meets a boys named Julian and Jack Will. Jack Will is really nice to Auggie, but Julian asks Auggie a lot about his face and luckily Jack stood up for Auggie and told Julian to stop asking Auggie a ton of questions about Auggie's face. On Halloween Auggie was wearing a costume of a ghoul and overheard Julian and Jack talk about him and Jack said that he wasn't really liking their friendship. Later in the book, Julian's mother confesses to photo shopping Auggie out of a class photo that was taken on the first day of school. At the end of the school year at a 5th grade graduation, Auggie won an award for all he did to not be so sensitive to everything people said and did about him. Throughout the book it switches to the perspective of Auggie's sister Via. She goes to a high school in the city of New York, it was also her first day of high school in the book. Via says that she thinks that Auggie gets all of the attention from her parents and is jealous of it. At the end of this book, everybody wants to be friends with Auggie. A lot throughout this book it shows people to not judge a boy by his face. A theme of this book is to be nice to everybody even if they have their own flaws.
